Apple Expands iPhone Production in India, Creating 350,000 Jobs and Boosting U.S. Exports

Apple is dramatically expanding its iPhone production in India

Apple is dramatically expanding its iPhone production in India, integrating nearly 45 companies into its growing supply chain. Major players like Tata Electronics, Bharat Forge, and Hindalco, along with 20+ MSMEs, are now part of Apple’s manufacturing ecosystem, positioning India as a critical hub for the tech giant.

This expansion has already created approximately 350,000 jobs, including 120,000 direct employment opportunities, signaling a significant boost to India’s industrial sector. The move is part of Apple’s broader strategy to diversify its manufacturing base, reduce reliance on China, and mitigate exposure to U.S.-China trade tensions.

Exports from Apple’s Indian factories are increasingly targeting the U.S. market. Foxconn reported that nearly all $3.2 billion-worth of iPhones exported from India between March and May were destined for the United States. With Apple planning to increase annual production capacity from 40 million to 60 million units, India is set to become one of the company’s primary global manufacturing centers.

Experts note that this shift benefits not only Apple but also India’s economy, creating thousands of ancillary jobs and attracting investment in local infrastructure and technology. As Apple strengthens its presence in India, it signals a long-term rebalancing of the global supply chain, potentially reshaping how smartphones are produced worldwide.
